Position Summary:

Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in the emergency room. Triages each patient and determines priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system. Performs focused assessment of chief complaints of each patient in a timely manner according to established triage guidelines.

Essential Job Duties:

The most important responsibility for an emergency nurse is understanding triage, which is a method of prioritizing injuries based on medical need. An emergency nurse must have the ability to make quick and accurate assessments about incoming patients, including both physical and mental health conditions. Provides safe and effective nursing care to the emergency room patient and/or outpatient. Provide direct patient care including but not limited to medication administration, transferring patients, and assisting with activities of daily living, wound management, line/tube/drain management, performing and assisting with procedures, and ensuring patient safety. Provides or assists with the initiation and maintenance of accurate concise records. Communicates in a timely fashion, any pertinent assessment findings to the Providers. Carries out provider orders. Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment. Administer medications while following the Five Medication Rights to help reduce the potential for med errors. Interact with patients, families, co-workers and Providers with respect, dignity, and empathy. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families or care takers. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide ageappropriate care to the patient population served. Participate in and support orientation of personnel and all available in-services. Consistently seek educational tools to broaden knowledge base of various age groups, diseases, and best practices. Will handle and be knowledgeable of all medical equipment utilized in the care of the patient. Is punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts. Carries out other duties as assigned by supervising personnel.

Qualifications:

Current WA State RN license. Two years’ Med/Surg experience or one-year ER experience preferred. Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, TNCC and PALS. Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving abilities are required. Ability to cope with many pressures at once, directing personnel, communicating with hospital services, providers, patients, and families
