Penn Presbyterian's ED was recently one of 29 EDs across the country to be recognized by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) as a Lantern Award recipient. This award recognizes emergency departments for exemplary professional practice and innovative performance in the areas of leadership, practice, education, advocacy, and research.

Penn Presbyterian's ED specializes in the immediate recognition, evaluation, and treatment of unexpected illnesses or injuries. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the ED is equipped and ready to provide patients with excellent emergency care for all medical and surgical problems. ED nurses work with health care professionals in the surrounding community and from around the world to establish long-term, collaborative relationships. PPMC's ED nurses are committed to being reliable and trustworthy resources for helping provide the most advanced treatment options to meet the needs of patients. They strive to maintain open lines of communication with physicians and their patients to ensure that each patient's care is as seamless as possible. Penn Presbyterian’s ED has undergone a complete renovation to better serve its patients and the community. Some of the modifications include: Enlarged patient waiting and registration areas, all private single patient exam rooms, new staff and public entrances on Powelton Avenue, two new resuscitation rooms, a state of the art patient care room dedicated to eye emergencies, a medical imaging suite, an expanded and fully computerized nursing station, computerized charting systems, wireless bedside registration capability, the addition of the trauma service line, and a redesigned front end to expedite patient flow.

Responsibilities:

  • Vital signs
  • IV placement
  • Phlebotomy
  • Transport
  • Point of care testing
  • Point of care controls
  • Stocking of bedside and specialty carts
  • Provides 1:1 observation for patients

Credentials:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
  • Certified Nurse Aid (Required)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Must have EMT and or CNA certification is required or nursing student who has successfully completed a clinical rotation in their nursing program.
  • Education Specialization: Equivalent Experience: •And A graduate of a certified nursing assistant or emergency medical technician program •Or in lieu of certification, must be a nursing student matriculated in an accredited BSN nursing program having minimally completed the nursing foundations/fundamentals clinical course with a 3.0 GPA overall and in the nursing major and continue to maintain a 3.0 GPA in all nursing major subjects. In order for nursing students to maintain their position as a CNA or an EMT, they must continue in a matriculated BSN program and present evidence with an official transcript documenting a 3.0 GPA overall and in the nursing major each semester to the Nursing Network Center. Nursing Students are required to submit grade reports/transcripts to the Nursing Network Center within 60 days of their course completion. Nursing students employed as EMTs, must immediately (within 24 hours) and in writing report to their supervisor and the Nursing Network Center if they have not sustained the academic GPA requirement or discontinued/withdrawn from their matriculated BSN program. Failure to meet and maintain nursing student requirements in lieu of certification will result in termination of your nursing assistant position.
