Summary

Colville School District is now accepting applications for Emergency Certificated Substitute Teachers. To qualify, candidates must complete the certification process with Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and Colville School District to obtain an Emergency Certificate. Applicants must demonstrate dedication, enthusiasm, and the ability to work effectively with students of all ages. Successful candidates will utilize sound teaching practices and strong classroom-management strategies while fostering a positive classroom environment, and promoting engaged learning.

Essential Duties

  • Perform the same duties and follow the same workday schedule as regular teachers.

  • Follow the lesson plan prepared by the regular teacher or comply with instructions from the principal.

  • Collaborate positively with school staff to support the primary instructional goals of the Colville School District.

  • Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher regarding the day's lessons and student behavior.

  • Maintain a classroom climate built on mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency.

  • Preserve the classroom's "housekeeping" arrangement as established by the regular teacher.

  • Administer no corporal punishment. Contact the principal in cases of serious behavior issues.

  • Complete building report, including:

  • Attendance reports

  • Discipline referral, if necessary

  • Additional duties for Long-Term substitutes:

  • Complete student progress, report cards, and warning slips after conferring with the principal.

  • Communicate with parents only with the approval of the principal.

  • Report to the main office at the end of the school day to sign out and return keys, if necessary.

  • Attend staff meetings unless excused by the principal.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Candidates must hold a bachelors degree as a requirement for employment.
  • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Candidates must possess Emergency Substitute Certificate prior to placement in classroom.
  • Ability to understand and apply learning styles research to instruction while following teacher or principal teaching instructions for daily assignments.
  • Ability to plan, initiate, prepare, and implement teaching strategies aligned with the District's teaching plan for the day(s), providing effective teaching leadership (successful teaching experience preferred).
  • Possess the capacity and motivation to learn developmental and behavioral expectations appropriate for students of various ages.
  • Favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprint background check is required.
