Job Description
TITLE: ELL Bilingual Aide (Translator)
CLASSIFICATION: Instructional Support Staff
PAY GRADE 11: $18.24 to $19.24 hourly (based on education and experience)
LENGTH: 6.5 hours daily/180 days yearly
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree or, two (2) years college credit or, completion of 1,000 hours in the past year as a paraprofessional or successful completion of ParaPro Assessment Test.
- Computer Skills: Ability to effectively utilize internet searches; use common internet systems; email.
- Demonstrated interest and experience in working with school aged children, parents and faculty
- Effective use of spoken and written English
- Fluency in Spanish preferred
- Willingness to accept direction and ability to effectively complete assigned tasks
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administers, scores and records local achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual study.
- Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of materials and/or skills.
- Assists students with instructional materials assigned by the teacher to promote on-going skill development.
- Assists students with independent study, enrichment and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
- Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, etc.
- Reads to students; listens to students read and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Principal and/or other designee.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
Job Requirements
- At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
