The School District of New Berlin is looking for a dedicated individual to join the Orchard Lane Elementary team as a Special Education Assistant. This full-time, hourly position follows a 185-day calendar during the school year, requiring availability Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.
Under the direction of professional staff such as teachers, therapists, and clinicians, the Special Education Assistant increases instructional efficiency and ensures students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) can successfully access the curriculum by providing essential healthcare and physical support.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Tutoring and Instruction Conduct small group and tutorial instruction to reinforce materials developed by licensed educators. Support students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in accessing curriculum under the supervision of professional staff. Assist in teaching-related activities, including the implementation of instructional strategies developed by teachers, therapists, and clinicians.
• Classroom and Environment Support Perform basic clerical duties, such as record-keeping and word processing, to allow professional staff to increase efficiency. Assist in the preparation of materials needed for the classroom and perform general classroom duties. Supervise students in a variety of situations, including during non-instructional times such as noon hour, playground, and before/after school. Administer classroom rules and provide physical assistance-including transferring, lifting, and the use of braces or wheelchairs-to maintain a safe and accessible environment
