The Elementary Science, Social Studies, & Digital Literacy/Computer Science teacher will facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implement district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
The ideal candidate will:
- Execute the subject matter knowledge requirements specific for Science, Social Studies & Digital Literacy/Computer Science Teachers, including:
- Creating varied and engaging tasks, projects, and presentations that children in grades K-5 can successfully accomplish
- developing age-appropriate, standards based lesson plans and unit plans for a range of ages, grades and student abilities
- collaborating with general subject teachers and specialist teachers to develop cross disciplinary lesson plans and integrated units that build transfer skills and knowledge in students
- engage students in the scientific inquiry process in an active, dynamic classroom that utilizes Project Lead the Way's Launch modules to effectively address grade-level science & technology/engineering standards
- plan and deliver grade-level appropriate digital literacy and computer science lessons using Project Lead the Way's computer science Launch modules and additional resources to effectively address digital literacy and computer science standards
- use multiple means of assessment to monitor student progress and adjust practices as necessary to meet the needs of all students
- Perform other duties as deemed appropriate by the Building Principal and/or Department Head
- Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement
- Plan and deliver effective instruction
- Maintain classroom management
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity
