Primary Purpose: To provide the student an opportunity to achieve and enhance his/her self-esteem in order to maximize his/her social, personal, and academic development.

Qualifications: Education/Certification: Minimum of a masters degree. A valid school counseling certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff.

Preferred Experience: At least two years of teaching experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Develop the counseling program in relation to the needs of the student/school being served. Provide crisis counseling. Respect confidentiality. Provide referrals to appropriate agencies. Work with students on an individual basis to increase personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. Work with children in small groups to target similar problems/interests. Provide information concerning developmental guidance to enhance students optimum growth. Confer with parents/staff when necessary. Participate in Admissions, Reviews, and Dismissals (ARDs) as needed. Coordinate and interpret results of standardized tests to students, parents, and professional staff. Transfer information to appropriate sources through professional growth. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee. Other duties as assigned.
