Atlas Preparatory Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary School Reading Specialist to join our team for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Reading Specialist will play a critical role in supporting literacy development across the elementary grades by delivering targeted reading instruction, creating engaging learning materials, and assessing student progress to ensure all learners meet or exceed literacy benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction in reading and comprehension to individual students and small groups.

  • Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with school literacy goals and state standards.

  • Use a variety of assessments and data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators to integrate literacy strategies across the curriculum.

  • Identify students who require reading interventions and design targeted support plans.

  • Support students with learning disabilities and reading challenges through differentiated instruction.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, literacy goals, and strategies for home support.

  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional development, and coaching sessions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree in Reading or Literacy preferred)

  • Valid teaching certification with a reading or literacy endorsement (or the ability to obtain one)

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a reading-focused capacity

  • Strong knowledge of reading instruction methods, literacy assessments, and intervention strategies

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
