OVERVIEW OF POSITION:

The Elementary School Principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the pre-K-5 buiding. This role is responsible for implementing the district's instructional goals, supervising and evaluating certified and non-certified staff, managing daily school operations, and establishing a safe, nurturing, and positive school culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid New Jersey Principal Certificate (or Certificate of Eligibility/CE).
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience (elementary experience preferred).
  • Prior school administrative or supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
  • Deep understanding of elementary child development, literacy/math frameworks, and data-driven instruction.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure teaching aligns with state standards and that curriculum is vertically aligned from pre-K through 5th grade.
  • Analyze standardized test scores and district benchmarks to identify learning gaps and implement targeted interventions.
  • Prioritize and oversee foundational reading and math initiatives essential to early childhood development.
  • Collaborate with the Child Study Team to ensure accommodations, modifications, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are properly implemented.
  • Observe classroom instruction, provide constructive feedback, and conduct formal evaluations.
  • Facilitates professional learning opportunities that build staff capacity and improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard high-quality teaching and support staff.
  • Cultivate a safe, nurturing, and inclusive school environment that addresses the emotional and social development of young learners.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and administers discipline in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, and due process requirements.
  • Organize assemblies, award ceremonies, and school traditions that boost student morale and celebrate academic and behavioral achievements.
  • Maintain transparent, regular communication with families.
  • Partner closely with the parent-teacher organization to coordinate school events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Oversee school security protocols and conduct mandatory safety drills.
  • Manage the building-level budget, allocating funds for classroom supplies, technology, textbooks, and field trips.
  • Design the master school schedule, including lunch/recess rotations, special subjects, and teacher prep periods.
  • Coordinate with the custodial and maintenance staff to ensure the physical building and playgrounds are clean, safe, and functional.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Compensation: Starting at $120,000
  • Full-time employees are eligible for medical, prescription, and dental benefits. Sick, personal and bereavement day allotments are included.
