JOB TITLES: Elementary Guidance Counselor - Westview Elementary
CLASSIFICATION: Professional Staff/Long Term Substitute
JOB OBJECTIVE: The Platteville School District is looking for a candidate to fulfill a long-term substitute position for Elementary Guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Wisconsin School Guidance Counselor license is preferred
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
Experience with at-risk youth or students receiving mental health supports
Ability and desire to connect classroom learning to the community and family
Display a positive, professional, and proactive attitude in working with colleagues and supervisors
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
General Duties:
Delivering classroom lessons
Monitoring/checking in with students informally
Providing basic emotional support/redirection
Supervising regulation breaks
Check In-Check Out with students
Distribution of weekly food bags
Arrival/dismissal duties
Lunch supervision duties
School Counselor or Related Mental Health Professional Specific Duties:
Mental Health and Crisis Response
Suicide/self-harm risk assessments
Threat assessments
Crisis response and safety planning
Child abuse/neglect concerns and social services reporting
Supporting students after deaths, traumatic events, or crises
Individual Counseling Services
Ongoing individual counseling sessions
Counseling students experiencing trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, divorce, etc.
Confidential student mental health documentation
Small Group Counseling
Groups related to grief, divorce/changing families, emotional regulation, social skills, anxiety, etc.
Screening/selecting students for counseling groups
Consultation and Collaboration
Collaboration with outside therapists/providers (Vanessa)
504 Meetings
Determining appropriate counseling referrals
