The school counselor, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion promoting student success, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic and social development for all students. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.Essential FunctionsAdhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresAdhere to NC Professional School Counselor StandardsUtilize data to design, deliver, and communicate a comprehensive school counseling program based on the NC Essential Standards for school counselorsAppropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling servicesCounsel student individually or in small groups for specifically identified needs within the domains of developing academic, personal/social, and career plansImplement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goalsIncorporate life skills into programs that students will need to be successful long-termDevelop and maintain a written plan for the effective delivery of the school counseling program on the NC Comprehensive School Counseling standard course of studyImplement an effective referral and follow-up processConduct a yearly audit of the school's comprehensive counseling program to review implementation and effectiveness; collect and analyze student data to guide program improvementsMonitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitate appropriate interventionsRespond to and support efforts to stabilize student crisis situations on an individual or school-wide basisMaintain current and appropriate resources for education stakeholdersCollaborate with parents/guardians and relevant stakeholders individually and in small groups to foster academic success for studentsCollaborate with teachers, administrators, parents and outside agency personnel to support the whole childAttend professional development and other meetings as requiredPerform safety functions/drills to maintain a safe instructional environment.
