Position Title: Elementary Manager (2 Schools) FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Responsible to: Food Service Director/Building Principal Supervises: Cafeteria Workers

Evaluated by: Food Service Director

Terms of Employment: 187 days - 8 hours/day

Evaluation Period:

  • Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per WCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
  • Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.

Purpose of the Position:

Responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, supervising, and providing assistance in the provisioning, operation, and functions of a school cafeteria with a staff serving, breakfast and lunch with additional ala carte sales.

Minimum Requirements: The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.

  • High school diploma with post-secondary food service training or work experience
  • Meet all mandated health screening requirements
  • Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team
  • Ability to interact comfortably and confidently with the public
  • Ability to monitor and manage compliance with nutrition, health, and safety laws/regulations

Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.

  • Plan, coordinate, assign, oversee and participate as required in the preparation, cooking and serving of food, preparing, and maintaining necessary records and files.
  • Identify problems and suggest changes in methods and procedures.
  • Open kitchen, set up equipment, prepare cafeteria for serving.
  • Train personnel in operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate food service records.
  • Maintain consistency in food preparation and service to students and school employees.
  • Prepare equipment for food preparation and monitor refrigeration equipment.
  • Order cafeteria supplies and prepare food orders as needed.
  • Prepare foods as needed; prepare USDA inventory and production records.
  • Set up monies for cash registers.
  • Count and balance cash received; prepare deposit and deposits monies in bank.
  • Monitor student meal account balances and implement procedures to minimize negative account balances
  • Prepare work details for next day, secure kitchen for next day and when not in use.
  • Supervise cleaning and sanitizing of eating utensils, counters, and equipment.
  • Compile reports, bills, deposit slips and cash register reports.
  • Receive, check and sign for food delivered to school, prepare work schedule, keep time sheets.
  • Prepare food production reports, prepare roster sheets.
  • Coordinate efforts with school staff, faculty, and support personnel, which include (delivery, maintenance, security, custodial).
  • Travel between assigned buildings to coordinate operations, deliver supplies, and maintain consistent food service operations
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Perform related work as required.

Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Food Service Director or Building Principal

Knowledge of:

  • Policies, procedures and functions of Wa-Nee Community Schools Board of Trustees and the Indiana Department of Education
  • Applicable software and applications

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
  • Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
  • Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Equipment Used:

  • Industrial cooking equipment, computer, and applicable software

Place Where Work is Performed:

  • All Wa-Nee Community Schools buildings

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
  • Must be able to lift items of 20 lbs. regularly/50 lbs. occasionally.
