Job Summary:
The K-4 Art Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive and engaging art curriculum to students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. The teacher will inspire creativity and promote an appreciation for art through age-appropriate instruction in a variety of mediums and techniques, aligned with state and national standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging art lessons that promote creativity, skill development, and knowledge of art history and cultural art forms.
- Develop curriculum aligned with district standards, state benchmarks, and the National Core Arts Standards.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Create a safe, supportive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages artistic expression.
- Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and during art exhibitions or school events.
- Maintain and organize art supplies, equipment, and materials within budgetary constraints.
- Assess and document student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and administration to integrate art across the curriculum.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide activities.
- Comply with school policies, safety procedures, and district regulations.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Visual Arts (LQ or LX)
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education or related field
Preferred:
- Experience teaching art at the elementary level
- Knowledge of child development and differentiated instruction
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Proficient in integrating technology into instruction
Working Conditions:
- Classroom environment within a public school setting
- May require standing for extended periods and lifting/moving art supplies
- Participation in after-school events or exhibitions may be required
