Description
The Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for an Electronics Technician II in our Water Production Division. This person will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, calibration and repair to all electronic instrumentation, controls, SCADA system equipment, and remote RTU sites.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Performs repairs, preventive maintenance and calibration by conducting various tests on equipment in order to check and adjust instrumentation and controls.
Installs new instrumentation as needed, interpreting electrical drawings, using technical manuals, and interpreting electrical signals.
Installs parts and new instrumentation by using hand tools, test equipment, electrical drawings, and technical manuals.
Will conduct testing the operation of instrumentation and the associated equipment to verify proper operation, and complete assigned work orders by utilizing computer software.
Investigate equipment malfunctions by observation, utilizing test equipment, and through discussions with customers and equipment manufacturers.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with at least six months/ one year of advanced study or equivalent experience. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Two years experience in electronics or as an Electronics Technician.
The desired candidate will possess one year of advanced study or technical vocational school with hands-on experience in electronics repair.

This position is designated as an Essential position which means you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, nights and/or weekends in response to emergencies and severe weather.

Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
