Job Description
Iowa Medical and Classification Center serves as the reception and classification center for all those entering the adult male institutional corrections system, which is estimated to be 400-500 new commitments every month that are then processed on to the other facilities.
However, IMCC is a multi-faceted facility that employs a diversified professional workforce providing comprehensive services to both offenders and patients.
A medium security general population unit is in operation at IMCC and the Center also runs the only licensed forensic psychiatric hospital in the state, providing inpatient psychiatric and evaluation services to non-adjudicated patients.
An additional unit consisting of 178 medical and psychiatric beds was added in 2007 to meet the increasing mental health and medical needs of the correctional population.
Iowa Medical & Classification Center, we offer a wide range of career opportunities in various departments; i.e., Security, Treatment, Medical, Administrative, Business, Records, Maintenance/Trades, Warehousing, Food Service and other support areas.
Duties include:
Using appropriate test equipment (phone toner, multi meter Etc.).
In addition, trace point to point wiring and develop drawings, schematics and computer programs to document installation of new equipment and present wiring to control electro-mechanical door lock system.
Develop written theory or operation documents and put together operation manuals for security systems.
Train other staff to help in the preventative maintenance and repair of electronic systems.
Develop and document preventative maintenance procedures as well as performing other regular maintenance on systems.
Develop inventory levels and maintain inventory control of necessary repair parts.
Do other documentation and reports consistent with institution policy and procedures including right-to-know, tool control, affirmative action and safety procedures.
Work with vendors/ professional engineers during installation of electronic systems and equipment.
Assure specifications for installation are completed as written.
When change orders are necessary work with appropriate people to assure system works according to institution requirements and manufacturers product specs. Bring problems to attention of institution management, contractor and, in some cases, outside support agencies for resolution
May involve some supervision of incarcerated individuals but as an incidental part of the position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Two years of post high school education with an emphasis in electronics, electronics maintenance, biomedical equipment technology or closely related areas;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of electronic repair, maintenance or electronic construction work experience for each year of the required education.
