Job Summary

The County of San Diego has a current opening for Electronic Security and Systems Technician.

Some positions may receive a Locked Facilities Premium and shall be compensated an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour for each hour worked in a locked facility in the Sheriff's Department.

Interviews will start the week of August 10th, 2026, and JOB OFFERs will be made the week of August 24th, 2026.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 - 3.73% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 0.73% Market Increase)

June 2027 - 3.63% increase to base pay (2.90% Across-the-Board + 0.73% Market Increase)

Did you know the county encompasses an area of over 4,000 square miles and is divided into four regions containing 17 zones for maintenance purposes. This work includes preventive maintenance on essential building systems, time critical response to emergency repairs, accomplishment of unscheduled maintenance services, compliance and service quality oversight for contract support and at select County facilities. Each zone consists of a Building Maintenance Supervisor (BMS) with a crew of Facilities Operations professionals consisting of Building Maintenance Engineers/Assistants (BME/A), Carpenters, HVAC Technicians, Electricians, Electronic Security and Systems Technicians, Welders, Painters, Masons, and Plumbers, as well as overseeing contract vendors that support their operations.

What does an Electronic Security and Systems Technician do....

Electronic Security and Systems Technicians install, repair, and operate electronic security and related electronic systems including; security, fire, access control, CCTV, duress and fire suppression systems that may be hardwired, wireless or computerized.

What does an Electronic Security and Systems Technician know...

  • How to read and translate schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Determine code requirements for various electronic systems
  • Operation of ohmmeters and oscilloscopic voltmeters, multi-meters, and programming devices
  • NSPA, NFC, and UBC codes relating to fire and electronic security systems

Interview and Hiring Dates

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below:

  • Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process begin in August 2026. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of extensive experience testing, inspecting, installing, repairing and programming of diversified alarm, electronic security and systems. Experience must have included current state-of-the art technology and equipment. Possession of the NICET certificate is highly desirable.

Conditions of Employment
