The EMR Specialist will ensure the integrity, accessibility, and compliance of patient health records across the HIM function, to deliver the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time.
What You Will Do:
- Location: ONSITE at Forsyth Medical Center
- Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm, every other weekend and rotating holidays.
- Retrieve, organize, and reconcile paper and electronic medical records to support accurate downstream processing.
- Scan, index, review, and validate medical record documents within EHR and imaging systems, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Monitor and resolve document imaging, archival, and record retrieval issues, escalating concerns as needed.
- Process and approve medical record documentation and imaging workflows while maintaining 100% accuracy standards.
- Provide customer service by assisting patients and staff with medical record requests and release procedures. Manage release of information (ROI) requests received by phone, fax, mail, and in person, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and authorization requirements.
- Handle payments and related financial processes for medical record requests.
- Meet established turnaround times, maintain regulatory compliance, and escalate issues to prevent delays.
What You Will Need
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of equivalent work experience with similar work assignments roles and responsibilities or RHIT or RHIA licensure.
- Excellent analytical and customer service skills.
- Strong working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
- Comfortable in a computer-based workflow, with working knowledge and/or familiarity with acute care medical records and hospital regulatory environment.
- Able to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation, competency testing, and standardized productivity metrics/goals.
- Able to multitask and work independently with limited supervision.
- Able to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.
Preferred:
- RHIT licensure.
- Associate Degree.
- Experience with the EPIC EHR and/or Hyland On Base scanning application.
