Step Into the Build: A Day in This Role

When your shift begins at SPX, you join a tight-knit production cell focused on turning raw components into precision electric heating units used in industrial, military, and commercial applications. Depending on the day, you may rotate across Fin, Coil, COTB, or General Assembly. You’ll reference engineering drawings and blueprints, set up your station, and methodically bring each unit to life with safety and quality at the forefront.

Shifts

• 1st: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM
• 2nd: Monday–Thursday, 4:00 PM–2:30 AM ($5 shift differential)
• Weekend: Friday–Sunday, 5:00 AM–5:30 PM (anything over 36 hours is OT)

What You’ll Build and Do

• Assemble electric heating units to spec using engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
• Use basic hand and power tools to fabricate, fasten, and install parts.
• Wind fins and coils to precise tolerances with designated equipment.
• Install electrical components, including breakers, thermostats, relays, and bus bars.
• Measure, cut, and tack-weld materials as required.
• Run hydro and electrical tests to validate performance and safety.
• Perform in-process inspections; adjust or repair to meet quality standards.

If Assigned to Shipping & Receiving

• Receive and check incoming materials; record using packing slips and freight logs.
• Prepare outbound shipments: weigh, crate, and stage units.
• Maintain shipping documentation (bills of lading, UPS/FedEx online systems).
• Assist with inventory control and stockroom organization.

What You Bring

Required

• 1–3 months of related experience and/or training.

Preferred

• Background in soldering, brazing, or wiring (certification helpful but not required).
• High school diploma or GED.
• Hands-on, mechanically inclined, and safety-minded.
• Strong attention to detail; able to follow technical instructions.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing production environment.
• Reliable team player who takes pride in craftsmanship.
• Ability to read blueprints, interpret technical documents, and perform basic math.
• Able to use hand tools and lift/move up to 25 lbs as needed.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Regularly: stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands/arms.
• Frequently: walk and talk/hear.
• Occasionally: sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Lift/move: regularly up to 10 lbs; occasionally up to 25 lbs.
• Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Exposure: moving mechanical parts; fumes/airborne particles; electrical shock risk; vibration.
• Noise level: usually very loud.
• PPE: provided and required in designated areas.
