Position Summary

As a licensed Journeyman Electrician, monitor and maintain airport jetbridges and baggage delivery systems; install, maintain, modify and repair high and low voltage single and multi-phase transmission, distribution, lighting, communication, control and alarm systems and components; troubleshoot problems in electrical systems and components and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area responsibility.

Essential and Supplemental Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  • Maintain jetway loading bridge systems including rotunda, bridge and related component parts; replace tube and liner; maintain and troubleshoot power supply and 400 Hz aircraft ground power systems.
  • Maintain baggage system; clean and grease roller bearings, drive chains and drive belts; adjust carousel height and inspect for foreign objects; install, adjust and maintain infrared photo switches.
  • Install, modify and maintain lighting control systems; replace lamps and ballasts; install fixtures and conversion form standard to electronic ballast.
  • Install, modify and maintain automatic gates and associated electrical components, install and maintain booster transformers.
  • Maintain trash compactor; repair electrical and hydraulic systems including high pressure switches and oil levels; calibrate hydraulic pressure systems.
  • Maintain electrical roll-up doors including clutch adjustments, chain tensions and replacement of steel cables.
  • Maintain and operate fire alarm, security and surveillance, emergency generator and emergency management systems; test general efficiency, power supplies and battery charging system; perform preventive maintenance.
  • Install and maintain cable network for card access, radio equipment and public address systems.
  • Install conduit and wiring systems for additions, remodels and new construction projects.
  • Diagnose and repair complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital control systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of system software.
  • Operate and maintain digital system controls common to wide variety of electrical controls, HVAC systems.
  • Conduct extensive research as needed to improve and maintain technical proficiency in Division assets regarding automation controls and electrical systems; complete certifications as required by Department. May function as lead personnel in emergency situations in coordinating mechanical and electrical repairs and projects with other trades, and with Aviation, Airline and Tenant Managers in the absence of supervisor.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of electrical automation.
  • Report and handle Jetway and facilities emergencies in accordance with established procedures as necessary.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

High school diploma or GED; and

Five (5) years of electronic or electrical systems installation, maintenance and repair experience at the electrical journeyman level.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Drivers License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a valid City Operators Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Possession of a valid State of New Mexico Journeyman Electrical EE-98J License.

Must be able to successfully qualify for and maintain a Sunport Access Control Card as determined by the criteria set forth by the policies and guidelines of the Aviation Department and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Successful completion of a security background check conducted by U.S. Customs & Border Protection, if applicable.

Airport environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, electrical energy.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate or light lifting, walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time or operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
