Help

Installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls as well as installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fire alarm systems and equipment of moderate complexity or a system of moderate complexity.

Troubleshoots problem areas, inspects for defective equipment, and examines faulty wiring. Additionally, installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.

Maintains software/firmware for new installs and makes programming changes to existing software/firmware for alarm systems, subsystems, and devices.

Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures, following established safety rules and regulations, and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

May be required to train/guide other employees. The work will require the employee to carry a cell phone.

Employee may be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and real-world threats and events.

Employee may be required to support Special Events (i.e., Annual Air Show, Base Exercises) not necessarily performing in their primary skill code.

Employee may be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team not necessarily performing in their primary skill code. Employee would be trained on snow shoveling and snow removal practice and would receive appropriate safety equipment.

Possession of a Class D Systems Technician License, electrician, or greater may be required.

Physical required and requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 - Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision

JOB ELEMENTS Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or competencies in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Electrical Equipment
  • Theory and Instruments Electrical Electronic Used in Shop and Trade Practices
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Ability To Use Electrical Drawings
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools Electrical Work
  • Trouble shooting electrical

In addition to the above, the following KSAs will also be evaluated:

  1. Detailed knowledge of complex fire alarm equipment, heat and smoke detection, electronic and analogue panels, addressable and non-addressable annunciators, dialers, city loops, digitizers, and multilayered printed circuit boards.
  2. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and operating electronic principles such as microminiaturized digital and solid-state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, tube circuits, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, and amplification.
  3. Knowledge of fire suppression systems and HVAC systems connections to fire alarm control panels and other interfaces.
  4. Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE), pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, and special test panels, and the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units.
  5. Ability to troubleshoot and repair malfunctions where circuit theory must be used to understand the operation of individual circuits and the interaction of other circuits to create a malfunction and perform functional tests on items to determine the extent of repair required, make repairs, and replace defective components and parts, including ability to assist engineers in developing, debugging, or modifying diagnostic programs by identifying and investigating apparent contradictions between test specifications or test requirement documents and test programs.
  6. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to use computer terminals to maintain records and document actions.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and/or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
