Electrical Project Engineer Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to support our Renewables Division. The role involves designing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including plant layout, selecting appropriate system hardware, system optimization, determining power generation and interconnection requirements, and leading portions of the electrical engineering on projects. The engineer will coordinate with the Project Lead and Senior Engineers, maintain firm standards and consistency, and oversee junior engineers, electrical designers, and drafters. This position may also include supervisory responsibilities over interns or new graduates for timesheet, expense, and PTO approval, annual growth planning, and disciplinary actions.Requirements Lead electrical engineering portions of commercial and utility‑scale solar projectsResponsible for contractual electrical engineering scope, verify incorporation into design, and coordinate change orders with the project managerEnsure project deliverable schedules for electrical engineering scope are metCoordinate with other project disciplines including civil, geotechnical/structural, and surveying engineersPerform electrical engineering design and creation of construction documents for projectsConduct electrical calculations and studies such as short‑circuit, load‑flow calculations, and voltage dropCoordinate with clients, utilities, and code enforcement officersQA/QC of design work performed by interns, graduate engineers, and staff engineersMaintain awareness of currently available equipment and industry best practicesCollaborate with and support electrical engineering teams in other offices as projects and workload sharing between offices dictatesSupport construction of the projects by responding to contractor and owner requests including RFIs and submittal reviewSupervise, train, and/or mentor interns, graduate engineers, and design techniciansSkills and Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Engineering ProgramKnowledge of NEC and NESCProficiency in an electrical power system modeling program(s)Approximately 3‑7 years of experience in the design of electrical distribution, generation, and/or general electrical constructionWorking knowledge and ability to read and create construction drawings and specification packagesProficiency with Microsoft Office productsProfessional appearance with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to write detailed technical reports with minimal oversightExperience with progress reports, managing project data, and communicating project requirements to internal stakeholdersStrong work ethic and positive attitudeSupportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environmentSelf‑motivated with an ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines with minimal supervisionAbility to use AutoCAD in at least a limited capacityExperience and knowledge of overall design and construction of renewable power projectsExperience with EV chargersExperience in lighting design and photometrics analysis using AGI32 or Visual LightingProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3DElectrical PE License or ability to be licensed in the futureExperience with energy storage systems (battery, flywheel, or capacitor)Experience with ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, and/or DigSilent PowerFactory to model electrical power systems and perform load flow, short‑circuit, voltage‑drop, grounding, thermal, and protective device coordination studies and analysisExperience with Homer Grid/Pro modeling softwareExperience with microgrid design, backup reciprocating generator system design, or data center designExperience with PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or similar software and performing transient/dynamic modeling and studies or power systemsPreferred Consideration Experience and knowledge of overall design and construction of utility‑scale PV and/or wind plantsNABCEP CertificationProficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3DElectrical PE License or ability to be licensed in multiple statesExperience with energy storage systems (battery, flywheel, or capacitor)Proficiency with ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, and/or DigSilent PowerFactory to model electrical power systems and perform load flow, short‑circuit, voltage‑drop, grounding, thermal, and protective device coordination studies and analysisExperience with PVsyst, Helioscope, SAM, or other PV production modeling softwareExperience with Helios 3D, PVcase, RatedPower, SolarFarmer, or other PV site layout softwareExperience with PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or similar software and performing transient/dynamic modeling and studies or power systemsBenefits Westwood offers a full suite of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contribution; company‑paid life and AD&D insurance; short‑ and long‑term disability coverage; and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
