POSITION SPECIFICS

The Office of Physical Plant (OPP) Design and Engineering Services (DES) is seeking applicants for an Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor.

Design and Engineering Services (DES) provides architectural and engineering design services for construction projects and engineering operational support across all Penn State campuses. Design projects primarily involve renovations of Penn State's buildings, facilities, and infrastructure. Project sizes and scopes vary from small office renovations to whole building renovations, as well as major infrastructure and plant upgrades.

This Design Engineer Senior Supervisor position:

  • Supervises the 3 to 5-person Electrical Engineering group within Design and Engineering Services
  • Guides to building-level electrical engineering design efforts
  • Promotes long-term reliability, performance, energy efficiency, and safety in facility electrical systems
  • Provides operational support to Penn State utilities on electrical power and electrical engineering-related issues
  • Guides, reviews, and coordinates on electrical engineering designs provided by outside consultants

The position's duties are distributed between staff supervision, electrical engineering design, and general electrical engineering support for campus and utilities operations. The percentage of time spent between these activities varies depending on organizational needs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the 3 to 5-person DES electrical engineering group
  • Serve as the Design Leader or lead electrical engineer on facilities electrical engineering, or multi-disciplinary projects designed by DES
  • Manage budgets and schedules for the delivery of these services and provide excellent customer service
  • Provide electrical engineering support to Penn State Utilities personnel, trade supervisors, crews, Project Managers, Design Professionals, Planner Estimators, and Facility Coordinators at University Park and Commonwealth campus locations
  • Review and update design and construction standards and specifications for the University's electrical systems
  • Prepare technical, fee, and schedule proposals for engineering services to be provided to internal customers
  • Provide designer-based construction administration services on projects that have been designed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expert familiarity with the design and operations of building and other facilities electrical systems is required
  • Candidate must be able to work exceptionally well within a team, supervise, take direction, and lead projects and people

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Design Engineer - Senior Supervisor, this position requires:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • Required Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer - Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists

If filled as Design Engineer - Supervisor, this position requires:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Required Certifications: Licensed Professional Engineer - Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists

SALARY & BENEFITS
