Electrical Engineer

Location: Houston, TX or Salt Lake City, UT

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer is a member of the Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) team responsible for the design, development, and support of electrical systems for industrial EPC projects. This role supports all project phases, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning, while ensuring compliance with client requirements and applicable industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and revise electrical engineering deliverables, including single-line diagrams, motor control schematics, MCC layouts, cable and conduit schedules, grounding and lighting plans, hazardous area drawings, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and installation details.
  • Perform electrical engineering calculations, including load studies, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, and cable/conduit sizing.
  • Develop engineering specifications, bills of materials, and construction documents.
  • Review vendor submittals, evaluate electrical equipment, and support procurement activities.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil, automation, instrumentation, procurement, and construction teams throughout project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical coordination with clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide construction support through field walkdowns, installation assistance, testing, startup, and commissioning activities as needed.
  • Contribute to internal engineering standards and provide technical guidance to designers and junior team members.
  • Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum one year of electrical engineering experience, preferably in an EPC environment serving industrial, mining, minerals, or oil & gas projects.
  • PE license preferred or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Professional organization membership (IEEE, ISA, or NFPA) is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of industrial electrical system design, power distribution, and systems integration.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and familiarity with IEEE, ISA, ASME, and API standards.
  • Ability to prepare construction-ready electrical drawings and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with PLC/DCS wiring, instrumentation integration, and medium-voltage power systems (4.16–12.47 kV) preferred.
  • Experience with electrical analysis software such as SKM PowerTools (preferred), ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, or similar CAD platforms and Microsoft Office.
