The role is hybrid and reports to any of our locations in Virginia Beach, VA; Lexington, KY; Huntsville, AL; or San Antonio, TX. This engineer will ultimately gain mastery over entire projects, serve as a Discipline Lead on small‑ to medium‑scale projects, and/or fully engineer complex systems on large or campus‑scale projects. The incumbent will act as the Responsible Engineer Of Record responsible for the technical sufficiency of electrical department deliverables.ResponsibilitiesCreate, direct, edit, and check project documents—including plans, BIM models, specifications, and support documents (basis of design).Check work delegated to other engineers and designers to ensure scope is documented successfully; serve as Discipline Lead.Perform complex engineering calculations, design systems, and complete equipment selections.Manage electrical department scope for the project.Act as the main point of contact to clients for electrical department responsibilities (meetings, conference calls, comment reviews/responses, ITRs, site investigations, cost estimates, and other tasks as required).Comply with data protection principles while handling personal, protected, and/or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data handlers must follow documented policies, SOPs, and secure practices associated with protecting employee and customer data.Skills & ExperienceSkilled in directing others in all aspects of electrical design and preparation of engineering and construction documents—including lighting, power, telecommunications. Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), ASHRAE 90.1, client design criteria (UFCs, OBO Design Standards, GSA), and the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). Able to use engineering calculation spreadsheets and SKM Power*Tools for fault calculations. Familiar with other building systems and their coordination with electrical systems.Command of overall department project scope and aspiration to become an independent front‑line project leader (Sr. Engineer). Mastery of primary design methods and calculations; understanding of the design process from inception to substantial completion; basic understanding of both electrical and telecommunications disciplines; developing command of department policies and administration, including proposal preparation.Collaborates with other engineers, disciplines, and project managers to ensure quality and verify successful project execution. Provides client‑facing representation of the electrical department and participates in business development activities. Supports project managers and department leadership with design scope modifications, manages project cost, ensures constructability, and coordinates with other disciplines.Interpersonal savvy and effective communication (oral and written) with M&H team members and clients. Able to take direction from senior staff and provide direction to less senior staff.Builds trusted relationships within the department by owning assigned work and delivering efficient, high‑quality results. Proactive learner, seeks support when needed, and pursues opportunities to grow technical capabilities. Maintains professional humility and respect in partnership with all team members. Data privacy, information security, and policy compliance.QualificationsBS/BA in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; degree must be ABET accredited or acceptable for licensure. Master's degree preferred.6+ years of experience, including 2 years of stamping/drawing.PE required.Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) preferred; LEED AP preferred.Great attitude, team player, good communication skills with clients and leadership.Successful completion of drug and background screening process.Eligibility: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required under federal regulations and contract terms.In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $93,600 - $140,400.
