Job Description
Job Description

We are looking for a Electrical Engineer in sheet metal manufacturing specializes in designing and integrating electrical components, control systems, and power distribution into fabricated enclosures. They bridge the gap between mechanical design and functional electrical systems for products like industrial control panels, switchgear, and custom server racks.

Core Responsibilities

  • System Design: Develop comprehensive electrical schematics and wiring diagrams for components housed within sheet metal enclosures.
  • Component Selection: Specify and source electrical hardware, including breakers, contactors, PLCs, and transformers, ensuring they fit within the mechanical constraints of the chassis.
  • Automation & PLC Programming: Design and program control logic for automated systems, often using platforms like Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
  • Enclosure Thermal Management: Calculate heat loads and design cooling systems (fans, heat exchangers) to protect internal electronics from overheating.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to UL 508A (industrial control panels), NFPA 70 (NEC), and CE standards.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Lead electrical testing and validation of first-article builds to ensure grounding, continuity, and safety protocols are met.

Key Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a closely related field.
  • Software Proficiency: Mastery of Electrical CAD (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or SolidWorks Electrical) and PLC programming software.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of power distribution, motor controls, and industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus).
  • Certifications:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) License: Often required for signing off on public or high-stakes infrastructure designs.
    • Certified Automation Professional (CAP): Highly valued for roles focused on system integration.

Work Environment

Engineers typically work in an office setting using CAD software but spend significant time on the production floor to oversee the assembly of electrical kits into the sheet metal housings and troubleshoot wiring issues.
