CDM Smith is seeking an **Electrical Design Engineer II** to contribute to challenging, multidisciplinary design and construction projects. In this role, you will work on complex electrical systems, power system analyses, and construction-phase services across a variety of facilities and markets. This is a hybrid position with a strong preference for candidates based in **Houston, Texas** . The role will collaborate with experienced professionals, apply innovative design tools and technologies, and contribute to projects that make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve. As an **Electrical Design Engineer II** , you will: + Under limited supervision, develop basic to highly complex designs for electrical master plans, power distribution systems, protection and generation models, facility electrical systems, and sustainability and renewable energy systems. + Perform power system studies and electrical calculations, including analyses related to power distribution, lighting, communications, fire alarm, security, and other facility systems. + Prepare electrical plans, specifications, calculations, technical reports, and other project documentation. + Conduct site investigations, field reviews, and technical studies to confirm existing conditions and ensure designs align with project and facility requirements. + Revise design criteria and project documentation based on field conditions, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards. + Support construction-phase services, which may include reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to requests for information, and assisting with field-related design issues. + Contribute to the firm’s Technical Knowledge Management program by developing white papers, design guidance, technical documentation, and case studies involving new or specialized designs. + Collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and sales staff in the development and review of proposals and responses to requests for proposals. + Participate in meetings with existing and prospective clients to understand their technical requirements and support the development of design solutions. + Participate in conferences, professional organizations, and technical events to expand industry knowledge and enhance the visibility of the firm’s services. + Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and support their professional development. + Review and coordinate the work of junior engineers and designers on assigned projects, as applicable. + Perform other duties as required. \#LI-TM1 \#LI-Hybrid **Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline. + Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). + Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. + 5 years of relevant experience. + Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience designing electrical systems for water, wastewater, industrial, federal, transit, or other critical infrastructure facilities. + Experience designing medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems. + Experience preparing single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, electrical calculations, plans, and specifications. + Familiarity with applicable industry and federal codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, NESC, IEEE, and UFC requirements. + Experience performing power system analyses using SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar software. + Experience with construction-phase services, including submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and field coordination. **Skills & Abilities** + Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and practices. + Proficiency with computer-aided design and drafting software and related 3D design tools. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word. + Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. **Amount of Travel Required** 10% or less **EEO Statement** We attract the best people in the industry, supporting their efforts to learn and grow.
