Electrical Controls Technician
Location: Grand Prairie, TX (onsite)

Perm Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Technician to support the assembly, programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of automated manufacturing equipment. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong expertise in PLCs, electrical controls, and industrial automation systems who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, wire, test, troubleshoot, and modify electrical control systems used in automated machinery.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of production equipment to minimize downtime.

  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and operator interface devices (HMIs).

  • Build and wire electrical control panels and support machinery integration efforts.

  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, and related technical documentation.

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical failures on manufacturing equipment.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and calibration of:

    • PLC systems and I/O devices

    • Transducers and sensors

    • Motor starters and relays

    • Solenoids and thermocouples

    • Power supplies and transformers

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize conveyor systems.

  • Conduct hydraulic and pneumatic system diagnostics and repairs.

  • Lead equipment rebuilds, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine reliability and performance.

  • Develop material lists and assist with component selection for automation projects.

  • Train and mentor junior technicians and new team members.

  • Complete assignments in accordance with established schedules and quality standards.

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in industrial manufacturing, automation, maintenance, or a related field.

  • 7+ years of hands-on electrical troubleshooting and system diagnostics experience.

  • 3+ years of PLC programming, troubleshooting, and debugging experience.

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480 VAC in a manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of PLC controls, ladder logic, process control, VFDs, and servo systems.

  • Experience with industrial automation software such as DirectSOFT, C-More Designer, Do-more Designer, MotionWorks, or comparable platforms.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.

  • Experience creating electrical schematics and supporting documentation using AutoCAD or similar design software.

  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols including RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, and EtherNet/IP.

  • Understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) and UL 508A standards.

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated control devices.

  • Proficiency using diagnostic equipment, including:

    • Multimeters

    • Megohmmeters

    • Ammeters

    • Oscilloscopes

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate power tools and shop equipment safely.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Willingness and ability to obtain forklift certification.
