    Electrical Controls Engineer JobsSTS Technical Services is hiring an Electrical Controls Engineer in Butler, Wisconsin . This role is ideal for an experienced controls engineer with strong PLC programming, servo drive, HMI, automation, electrical panel design and project management experience.The Electrical Controls Engineer will design, implement, troubleshoot and optimize advanced automation and control systems for manufacturing equipment. This position supports new and existing systems including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo drives and safety devices while helping deliver projects from concept through installation, start‑up and commissioning.Position SummaryThe Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for creating, modifying and maintaining controls specifications for manufacturing equipment and automated systems. This role requires technical expertise in system integration, PLC programming, HMI development, motion control, safety programming, electrical panel layouts and project execution.You will work closely with mechanical engineers, customers, vendors and internal teams to develop reliable, efficient and safe automation solutions that meet project requirements, customer expectations and industry standards.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop electrical control systems for manufacturing equipmentProgram PLCs and configure servo drivesDevelop HMI systems and electrical panel layoutsLead projects by delivering advanced technical solutions throughout the project lifecycleConduct project status reviews to ensure alignment with timelines, budgets and customer satisfactionDevelop system integration solutions for assembly line automation, motion control and safety programmingMaintain accurate documentation for electrical and control system designs, modifications and material listsPartner with mechanical engineers to integrate electrical systems with machineryTroubleshoot and optimize existing control systems to improve efficiency, reliability and safetyParticipate in project estimation, proposal preparation and business development activitiesPrepare and evaluate RFQs to vendorsCoordinate vendor quotes and manage vendor relationshipsEnsure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations and company policiesTravel to customer sites for equipment start‑up, drive setup, PLC code checkout and system commissioning (travel is estimated at less than 25 percent but may increase based on customer demand)QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field requiredMinimum of 7 years of experience in electrical controls engineering and manufacturing automation requiredStrong proficiency in PLC programming requiredStrong proficiency in servo drive programming requiredHMI development experience requiredAllen‑Bradley experience requiredExperience with motion control requiredExperience with safety programming requiredExperience developing highly automated systems requiredRobotics experience preferredExpertise in control panel design requiredExperience with wiring diagrams requiredExperience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems requiredFamiliarity with industry standards including NEC, UL508A and NFPA requiredStrong problem‑solving, critical thinking and project management skillsStrong interpersonal and communication skillsExperience with customer and vendor managementProficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks Electrical preferredAbility to travel domestically as neededMust be authorized to work in the United StatesCompany Benefits100 percent paid premiums for medical, dental, life insurance and short‑term disabilityVision insurance401(k) program with company match contributionsAnnual profit sharingAnnual bonusUp to 100 percent tuition reimbursement programsPTO with 8 paid holidaysPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
