Our client is seeking Electrical Engineers – Power Systems Commissioning to support the safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning and startup of power generation and energy infrastructure. This role provides electrical engineering expertise throughout pre‑commissioning, commissioning, energization, and turnover, ensuring systems are properly tested, verified, and ready for operation.

Responsibilities:

Commissioning & Startup Execution

  • Support loop checks, calibration, and protection system verification.
  • Perform testing, verification, and troubleshooting during pre‑commissioning, energization, and startup.
  • Execute electrical testing including insulation resistance, hi‑pot, relay testing, and functional verification.
  • Validate power system studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) against as‑built conditions prior to energization.
  • Lead and support electrical commissioning activities for switchgear, transformers, generators, and protection/control systems.

FAT/SAT & Turnover

  • Identify, track, and resolve punch‑list items prior to system handover.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, PSSR, and RFSU processes to ensure systems meet startup requirements.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning documentation including ITRs, test records, redlines, and turnover packages.

Field Troubleshooting & Vendor Coordination

  • Work directly in the field to support testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors during installation, testing, and commissioning activities.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and all required safety protocols.
  • Support integration and system‑level testing for BESS, power generation assets, and electrical distribution systems.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and standardized commissioning processes.
  • Work closely with Project Management, Construction, Controls, Commissioning, and Operations teams to ensure aligned execution.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools (ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience with protection relay testing and electrical test equipment (Omicron, Doble, Megger)
  • 4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning within power generation, industrial, or related environments.
  • Understanding of: Protection coordination and arc flash analysis, Grid integration and energy storage systems, DCS/SCADA systems and electrical integration.
  • Working knowledge of: Electrical power systems and equipment (switchgear, transformers, generators), Electrical drawings, one‑line diagrams, and control systems and Commissioning, testing, and startup processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or actively pursuing.
  • Familiarity with FAT/SAT execution and turnover processes.
  • Experience with power generation, data centers, or BESS systems.
  • Experience supporting or leading commissioning and startup activities.

Work Environment:

  • Requires adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Field‑based role supporting active construction, commissioning, and startup environments.

Work Schedule & Physical Requirements:

  • 12‑hour rotating 7‑day on/off shifts.
  • Occasional night and holiday shiftwork.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; team‑lift heavier loads.
  • Use hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, and squat for extended periods.
  • Work at elevated levels using ladders, scaffolding, or lifts.
  • Work in extreme temperatures, loud areas, and confined spaces.
