Electric Motor Insulation Technician
Employment Type: Full Time
Industry: Manufacturing
Location:Miami Lakes, FL
Pay Rate: $17.00 to $22.00 per hour. Depending on experience.

Summary
This role involves applying protective insulation varnish to aircraft electric motor components, such as armatures, rotors, and stators, to prevent electrical failure and protect against environmental stressors. The technician follows detailed technical specifications and safety protocols to prepare components, perform the dipping and curing process, and ensure a high-quality finish.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Preparation:
    • Thoroughly clean and prepare motor components for varnishing by removing old insulation, grease, and contaminants using specialized solvents and equipment.
    • Inspect components for damage or defects before insulation application.
    • Mask or protect areas that do not require coating.

  • Dipping and coating:
    • Heat components to a specified temperature before dipping to ensure proper varnish thickness and penetration.
    • Use a controlled, jitter-free process to immerse components into a varnish tank.
    • Operate and maintain a vacuum-pressure impregnation (VPI) system, a process commonly used for aerospace motors to create a void-free insulation system.

  • Curing:
    • Operate industrial ovens to cure the varnish according to manufacturer specifications.
    • Monitor temperature and curing cycles to ensure complete polymerization.
  • Quality control and testing:
  • Inspect finished components for drips, imperfections, and proper coating thickness.
  • Use electrical testing equipment, such as insulation resistance testers, to confirm the integrity of the insulation system
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and testing results for quality assurance and compliance.
