JOB SUMMARY The Electric Distribution Supervisor leads the maintenance and construction of the City's electrical distribution system, ensuring reliable service delivery and operational excellence. By coordinating work activities and overseeing safety protocols, the position safeguards both staff and community infrastructure. It strengthens public trust through responsive customer engagement while maintaining accurate operational documentation. The role also provides direct supervision to assigned personnel to support a high-performing and safety-focused team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensure accurate and timely approval of employee timesheets and time-off requests.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate assigned personnel to maintain team effectiveness.
Provide training on safety standards and proficient work practices, including climbing/pole techniques, line building, transformer hookups, and customer relations.
Assign work duties and monitor quality and compliance with safety and electrical principles.
Support the Distribution Manager with daily operational responsibilities as needed.
Direct and oversee the building, repair, and maintenance of electrical lines to ensure reliability and safety.
Prioritize and schedule job orders; coordinate materials, equipment, and resources for efficient execution.
Monitor job sites for safety hazards and ensure proper maintenance of tools and equipment.
Address public inquiries and resolve complaints professionally.
Provide 24/7 emergency call-out coverage as scheduled.
Respond to outages and emergency situations; coordinate personnel placement and facilitate timely restoration of power.
Serve as acting Distribution Manager when required.
Participate in organizational safety programs and represent the department in relevant safety and work practice organizations.
Complete additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ten (10) years of electric distribution line experience
Must maintain a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to lawfully report to duty within one (1) hour for emergency calls.
Must be able to lawfully respond to calls, within one (1) hour, for assistance with power outages on nights and weekends. Must live within one (1) hour of the City limits of San Marcos as determined by google maps.
COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of electrical codes, drawings, job orders, and specifications to ensure compliance and accurate interpretation.
Knowledge of safety standards and professional work practices for electrical line construction and maintenance.
Skill in preparing job order records, documentation, and related reports accurately and efficiently.
Skill in effective verbal and written communication to convey technical information and interact professionally with staff, contractors, and customers.
Skill in maintaining positive working relationships with internal departments, external agencies, and utility customers.
Ability to train, guide, and support work crews in safety and proficient work techniques.
Ability to work safely, professionally, and productively under general direction while exercising sound judgment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty-five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical systems, hazardous chemicals/materials, wildlife, working at heights or confined spaces.
