Position Summary:

Responsible for leading the EHS culture while ensuring the facility remains in compliance with applicable regulations and corporate standards. 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Job manages a team, has authority to hire and performance-manage the team.
  • Job leads/supervises/manages 1-5 employees.
  • Focuses on coaching all levels of employees to achieve a best in class EHS performance. 
  • Support and lead initiatives around lockout tagout, confined spaces, and electrical safety.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Implement programs for risk reduction, compliance, and employee engagement.
  • Provides direction to all levels of personnel to ensure compliant execution of EHS programs throughout the facility.
  • Works closely with Corporate EHS Team on the development of programs and policies.
  • Ability to communicate EHS metrics to a wide range of people from senior leadership to the newest hourly employee.
  • Ability to lead complex projects aimed at anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling EHS hazards.
  • Assist with workers' compensation claim investigations as they relate to EHS performance.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental permits and reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and support the program.
  • Represent company during federal, state and local health and safety inspections for OSI facilities or provide direction and guidance to facility safety personnel during facility inspections by federal, state or local agencies.
  • Help coordinate and manage the standard work for hourly safety teams, assistants as applicable.  
  • This role has the responsibility to understand and places in practice appropriate safety procedures.  This responsibility is achieved through education, training, use of protective equipment (as applicable) and by following safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills:

  • 5-10 years of experience in related field is preferred.
  • 7 or more years of experience working in progressively more responsible safety and environmental roles in a manufacturing environment so as to be familiar with manufacturing equipment, environment and procedures is preferred.
  • Knowledge of governmental safety compliance regulations and their influence on manufacturing operations and policies is a plus
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both individually and in group settings, with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to resolve problems regarding policies, procedures and safety programs. 
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in occupational safety, environmental science, or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and/or abilities acquired through work is strongly preferred.
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, CSHP or other certification preferred, but not required.

Compensation/Benefits

The base salary for this position ranges from a low of $104,648 to a maximum of $156,972, with offers typically between the low and middle of the range, based on education, skills, experience and internal equity among other factors. This role is also eligible to participate in the company annual discretionary bonus plan based on company and individual performance. Work Environment: 

  • Work can be performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people and conveyor (may depend on the role).
  • Work conditions are typical of an office & plant environment.
  • This role does not require any domestic travel
  • Position may require the physical agility of lifting up to 15 pounds
  • Position may require frequent and/or infrequent of bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, feel objects, tools, controls and standing/walking on concrete flooring.
  • Position may require the physical ability to stand/walk for Greater than 4 hours.
