Overview
Sterling Engineering/Staffing is seeking an EHS Engineer to lead environmental, health, and safety programs at a manufacturing facility in Dallas, TX. This role will develop, implement, and monitor safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The ideal candidate brings knowledge of industrial hygiene, ergonomics, hazardous materials, and safety systems, ensuring an accident-free, healthy workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Consult with departments on design and use of equipment, fire prevention, and safety programs
- Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to ensure all safety precautions are included
- Tour plant to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards
- Define requirements for safety clothing and devices; design, build, or direct installation of safety devices on machinery
- Conduct or coordinate safety training to educate workers on emergency procedures, safety policies, and regulations
- Investigate industrial accidents to minimize recurrence and prepare detailed accident reports
- Conduct air quality tests for harmful gases and vapors
- Identify health and safety hazards and recommend corrective actions
- Serve as internal consultant on ergonomics, hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, and chemical safety
- Audit business units for safety compliance
- Interface with outside vendors, contractors, and engineers regarding facilities, chemicals, and other safety matters
- Compile and submit safety reports
- Administer workers’ compensation, OSHA 2000 logs, and return-to-work programs
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, or Health Sciences, or equivalent EHS experience
- Knowledge of EH&S regulations, codes, and guidelines
- 1–2 years of experience in EHS within a manufacturing environment preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
