Job Summary

The EHS Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring organizational adherence to environmental health and safety regulations while supporting a culture of continuous improvement. With targeted direction, this position is responsible for monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements, maintaining accurate documentation, and partnering with operational teams to implement best-practice safety programs.

The specialist conducts audits, leads training initiatives, and provides expert guidance to reduce risk, improve workplace safety, and support sustainable operational performance. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented professionals with strong analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

What Youll Do

This position supports operations and requires conducting safety inspections, monitoring crew activities for compliance, ensuring proper use of PPE, maintaining EHS documentation, and supporting safe convoy access onto and off the bridge with the team each shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Field Presence & Safety Oversight
  • Maintain a consistent onsite presence and engage with crews during active work.
  • Conduct daily EHS observations and document safe/unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Participate in pre-task planning, JSAs, and safety huddles.
  • Deliver and track EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by providing coaching, communication, and hands-on support for operational teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
  • Monitor, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain compliance programs, permits, records, and reports to ensure full regulatory adherence.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings, inspections, and documentation within mandated timelines.
  • Support development and updates to Site Safety Plans, Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
  • Incident Response & Reporting
  • Participate in incident investigations and root-cause analysis, ensuring thorough reporting and corrective action tracking.
  • Support development, testing, and maintenance of emergency action and response plans.
  • Serve as a resource during emergency events or compliance-related issues.
  • Assist with incident/near-miss investigations, documentation, and reporting.
  • Corrective Actions & Escalation
  • Correct unsafe conditions within assigned authority and document actions taken.
  • Escalate safety violations through the appropriate supervisory/management chain of command per policy.
  • Initiate stop-work and immediate escalation when imminent danger conditions are observed per site stop-work authority protocol.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Attend owner/client and internal safety meetings as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information and employee information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned consistent with the role.

In addition to your passion and purpose to be successful in this EHS Compliance Specialist role, you will possess the following:

  • Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to work effectively on active construction sites with routine exposure to outdoor conditions and construction hazards
  • Ability to communicate clearly with field employees and leadership, and to write basic reports and documentation
  • Valid drivers license, insurance, and reliable transportation as applicable by location
  • Preferred:
  • 2 years of experience in construction safety, industrial safety, or equivalent field EHS experience
  • OSHA 30 construction preferred
  • OSHA 500/510 a plus
  • BCSP certification, CHST, ASPCSP preferred or ability to obtain
  • Experience with EHS systems/software, training databases, audit tracking
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed on active construction jobsites. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, outdoor weather, noise, dust, fumes, uneven terrain, working at heights, and confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. The role requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
