About the service

About the role

Working within a locality-based team, you'll manage a caseload of Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and plans, acting as a key point of contact for families and professionals and championing co‑production every step of the way.

Key elements: -

  • Managing a caseload of children and young people (0-25) with EHC plans or undergoing statutory assessment
  • You will be required to attend mediations on behalf of the local authority
  • Coordinating the statutory EHC assessment process in line with the SEND Code of Practice and Children and Families Act 2014
  • Writing high‑quality, person‑centred Education, Health and Care Plans with clear, measurable outcomes
  • Working closely with parents/carers, children and young people, schools, health professionals and social care to ensure effective co‑production
  • Attending and contributing to priority annual reviews, multi‑agency meetings and case conferences
  • Monitoring provision, funding and outcomes to ensure EHCPs remain appropriate and effective
  • Maintaining accurate and timely case records and statutory timescales

Working autonomously, making informed decisions at all stages of the statutory process with support from your Locality EHC Casework Manager when needed, the North Yorkshire SEND team is also supported throughout the administration process of the statutory assessment by the Business admin team.

What we're looking for

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of SEND regulations 2014, Children's and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to independently produce high‑quality EHCPs
  • Confidence in working to strict statutory timescales and managing complex caseloads
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with families and multi‑agency partners
  • Ability to travel across North Yorkshire

We are looking to find the 'right' person who will become a valued part of our SEND family of services to help us take the next steps in our improvement journey for supporting children, young people and their families. We offer a supportive peer to peer induction programme and monthly CPD opportunities.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
