Under the supervision of the Director and Neurologist, performs and coordinates EEGs.

Responsibilities:
Measures and accurately apply electrodes in a timely manner, according to the international 10-20 System. Ensures that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards.
Obtains and documents comprehensive patient history.
Performs EEG record according to the standards of the department (routine, sleep, bedside, and electrocerebral silence recording).
Implements alternative methods or adjust controls to obtain optimal recording. This may include control settings, extra electrodes, extra montages, and the use of activation procedures.
Knowledge of appropriate calibration and how to adjust. Documents, eliminates, or takes proper measures to monitor patient or environmental artifact.
Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
Knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment.
Knowledge of EEG internet application for physician interpretation.
Reporting of critical monitors to neurologists at the time of recording when needed.
Maintains equipment in working order. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and report to supervisor promptly.
Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, department staff, physicians and other hospital staff.
Knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, and general knowledge of EEG instrumentation, pattern recognition and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence EEG.
Participates in conferences and technical meetings.

Supervision:
Supervises daily activities of the EEG staff monitoring and assigning appropriate workload.
Maintains supply inventory and supply ordering.
Assumes responsibility for all EEG in-house and take-home equipment.
Assures the department is properly staffed on a routine basis along with emergency or activation events.
Assist in recruitment and selection of staff.
Training and mentoring EEG staff.
Responsible for Joint Commission requirements and all Quality Assurance programs of the department.
