Job Goals:
- To develop in each student awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledge applicable to a specific occupation in the business or public sector.
- To instill in each student safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education, and the assets of reliability, competence, loyalty, and dependability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Meet minimum state requirements for Certification as a Trade and Industrial Education Instructor.
- Valid Alabama teaching certificate with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
- Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the needs of students at the designated grade level(s) and in the designated content area(s)/subject(s).
- Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
- Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and technological tools; exhibits skills in implementing the best instructional practices and varied teaching methods to address student learning styles and achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes in accordance with course of study guidelines and student learning objectives.
- Teaches occupational skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to be an economic asset to the employer.
- Demonstrates occupational materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher prepared modes, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.
- Guides students in selection and performance of appropriate activities.
- Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the students and the requirements of the activities being performed.
- Instructs students in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Controls the storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment in an activity type classroom with many potential hazards.
- Organizes procedures, practices, materials, and routines for the effective use of instructional time and for the completion of administration activities.
- Maintains contact with the business community to keep informed of new innovations and job requirements which must be reflected in the curriculum to develop marketable skills as required by prospective employers.
- Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Adapts instruction and provides necessary services for special population students enrolled in the program.
- Assists special education teachers in developing IEPs for the special population students enrolled in the program.
- Supervises student in out-of-the-classroom activities during the assigned day.
- Coordinates work schedules and stations with participating facilities where training is done, such as hospitals, airports, shopping centers, and other off campus locations.
- Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.
- Supports school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, events, ceremonies, services, and programs.
- Engages in personal professional growth, adheres to professional standards, and demonstrates professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student/school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
- Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
- Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
- Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
- Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures; prepares for substitutes according to Board policies and school procedures.
- Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Terms of Employment/Salary: As established by the Board and applicable state law.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
