Position Summary

The Educational Technology Specialist provides support for educational technology systems and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative guidance for faculty, staff, and students on the use of educational technologies.
  • Develop expertise in supported educational technologies to provide last-level support, develop product recommendations, and serve as a resource for other IT colleagues.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for the College's educational technology systems, such as Canvas, Teams, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Panopto, and other enterprise educational technologies.
  • Perform system administration tasks in the learning management system, including but not limited to user management, configuration, third-party integrations, and report development.
  • Assist the Senior Instructional Designer with online course quality review and supporting faculty teaching in online programs.
  • Create, maintain, and update documentation for supported technologies for the Information Technology Knowledge Base.
  • Communicate regularly with faculty and students about educational technology via workshops, email, and content posted on Stonehill's myHill portal.
  • Research and collaborate on the evaluation of new technologies that have the potential to advance teaching, learning, and research.
  • Implement new hardware, software, tools, and services that support teaching, learning, and research.
  • Participate in project teams tasked with conducting research, testing technology, and rolling out systems and services to the community.
  • Ensure compliance with security, access, and other IT policies and procedures.
  • Stay informed about new developments and educational technologies by reading, conducting research, maintaining contact with vendors, attending seminars, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Respond to technical emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

A Bachelor's Degree is required. A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or a closely related field is preferred.

Experience providing technology support in an educational environment, with direct faculty support, is preferred. Direct experience supporting or using learning management systems, web conferencing systems, online learning platforms, web survey systems, artificial intelligence tools, and related educational technologies is required; supporting systems such as Canvas, Teams, Panopto, or Zoom are preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
