Job Description

Bloomfield Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Instructional Assistant for Special Education at Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.

Essential Duties

Reinforce academic instruction previously taught by the teacher to students. Monitor student behavior and respond appropriately. Implement modifications and accommodations made to students curriculum and learning environment. Assist classrooms Supervising teacher in maintaining daily classroom routines and discipline. Participate in mandated professional development activities provided by SSS Department and/or Board of Education, including but not limited to: • Mandated Reporter Training • Physical Management Training (PMT) • Collaborative Proactive Solutions (CPS) Perform non-instructional duties, e.g. lunch, recess, changing, etc. as directed. Provide physical support for physically and emotionally disabled students. Assist students in performing personal hygiene tasks. Implement prescriptive Behavior Intervention Plans. Take direction from Supervising Teacher and/or SET BCBA and administrators. Perform other appropriate duties as may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Associates degree or 60 college credits or have passed the Para Pro Exam.

Other Skills and Abilities

Exhibit understanding, patience, and a positive attitude with children. Ability to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors. Communicate clearly and courteously both orally and in writing.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Regularly required to move from location to another location. Ability to run, walk, sit, stand, and remain alert on a daily basis. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
