POSITION SUMMARY

The Educational Assistant is a key role in the provision of educational services for youth placed in YOC’s residential treatment programs.  Responsibilities include, attending to individual students’ academic needs, communicating frequently with program managers and school personnel, assisting with out-of-school time educational activities and providing classroom support during the school day. In addition, the Educational Assistant will be expected to create engaging activities that enhance education in and out of the classroom.  Anyone performing in this role must have exceptional customer service skills, a high attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, the capability to communicate within multiple levels of the organization, great organizational skills, and developed computer acumen.


PRIMARY JOB EXPECTATIONS

1.  Communication & Service
  • Assists teachers in the classroom to meet individual needs of students
  • Aids students on assignments, during and after school hours
  • Assesses the academic needs of students and uses information gathered to provide activities addressing the areas of need.
  • Communicates educational needs and progress with program managers and staff
  • Maintain awareness of the educational needs of students served
2.  Education Enhancement
  • Implements incentive programs to promote positive school performance, effort, and behavior
  • Take an active role in developing, planning, and supporting out-of-school time activities
  • Utilizes creative games and interventions, to engage students in learning
  • Work cooperatively with School Administrator to fill gaps in the school day by providing daily classroom support
  • Assist with the development and delivery of YOC’s Summer Enrichment program
3.  Documentation & Research
  • Documents all educational activities on an educational case note
  • Maintains an awareness of effective teaching methods through research of best practices
  • Researches programs and activities that will benefit students served
  • Monitors student improvement through continual assessment and observation of educational skill level and grade reports

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with experience in the social work or health care field preferred; high school diploma required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical work week is 40 hours, days and times vary by availability and need of population served. Position requires additional hours when necessary to complete special projects or meet specific deadlines.

COMPENSATION
This position is full-time, and compensation includes a competitive hourly wage and benefits plan.
