Job Summary PURPOSE OF POSITION To support the provision of quality health care within local or global practice environments. This position includes planning and implementing strategies that promote optimal learning and the effective application of skills, competency, and knowledge to the learners practice environment. The Nurse Educator operates in two separate, but linked environments: 1) the practice environment, and 2) the learning environment. RESPONSIBILITIES EXPECTATIONS The scope and responsibility of the Nurse Educator is continuously evolving. The following responsibilities of The Nurse Educator may vary based on environment: Education: Plans, coordinates, and validates annual clinical competency. Participates in and supports new nurse orientation. Attend monthly quality meetings as assigned by director. Participates in the development of just in time education as needed. Coordinates/assists with education for the LMS (Learning Management System)/Relias as it pertains assigned areas. Develops/Coordinates education content in collaboration with facility leadership, leading best practice, facility policy, organizational needs and in collaboration with unit-based educators. Identify instructional goals and learning objectives that align with the organizational strategy, key metrics, and evidence-based practice. Supports the Nurse Residency Program and assists as a presenter/facilitator as needed. Supports department and organizational projects/initiatives. Become an ONA planner and assist in organizational continuing education. Other duties as needed and assigned by Learning and Organizational Development director. Leadership Responsibilities: Understands the strategic plan of the organization, as well as nursing strategic plan, and applies it to direct training, development, and engagement initiatives. Drive leadership, change management and culture shaping efforts through the design and delivery of mentorship and training programs. Provide designated time on units for education, mentorship, and rounding. Understands how to multi-task and meet deadlines while keeping internal customers informed. Participates on interdisciplinary committee as assigned by director (i.e. Education Council, Research Council etc.) and reports information back to department. Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to plan, design, implement and evaluate nursing educational programs. Program Management: Develops and implements short and long-term work-plans and sets priorities. Strong oral, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to convey technical information to nontechnical users. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Strong Computer Skills:Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Behavior and Cooperation: Maintains a positive attitude and acts with integrity in all duties. Initiative: Exhibits initiative in going beyond defined duties when problems are evident, or the situation warrants extra attention. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations. Compliance Initiative Responsibilities: Government regulations, facility accreditation, licensure, and nursing professional standards. Facilitates the maintenance of orientation related records and reports to ensure compliance with industry required regulatory standards. Examples are but not limited to; Joint Commission, Ohio Department of Health, CARF etc. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Job Requirements MSN required or willingness to pursue MSN- If graduate degree is in a related discipline, baccalaureate degree must be in nursing. Nursing Certification Required upon hire, or upon eligibility as determined by professional organization. (i.e. CCRN, ANPD, PCCN, CEN, CNE etc.) Step Down, ED, or ICU experience required. Membership to Nursing Professional Organization preferred (i.e. ANPD, AACN etc.) Minimum 3 years of nursing practice preferred. Candidate with previous education experience preferred. AHA Healthcare Provider - BLS Certified REPORTING STRUCTURE: The educator will report directly to the Education Director. WORKING CONDITIONS: Dayshift hours M-F or hours as required by the job. Occasional weekends and off shifts. Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
