Program summary:Programs which enhance educational achievement of eligible youth and adult members of the tribe. Program includes counseling, tuition assistance and other forms of scholarships and other programs to advance education in the community. Opportunities for vocational training and access to Adult GED Education which both lend to the informal learning experience in order to broaden the individuals ability to prepare for a harmonious and successful living.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Administer activities such as program direction and management.
  • Schedule and supervision of work, building and staff.
  • Provide direct counseling, resources and guidance to assist individuals with making educational or career choices.
  • Administer funds that are set aside for direct scholarships for higher education and vocational training.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with financial aid and admissions counselors in post-secondary and vocational technical training institutions.
  • Assist individuals with completing paperwork for financial assistance and admittance to or enrollment in post-secondary and vocational programs.
  • Maintain contacts with local high school counselors in matters related to graduation and post-secondary education planning for high school students.
  • Administer after school Homework Help Program.
  • Maintain program and client records in accordance with Privacy Act requirement.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Education Board, Tribal Administrator and Tribal Council.
  • Assist in preparing department financial budgets.
  • Collaborate with departments that support educational activities and with all other schools, groups, and agencies to ensure educational success for the children and adults.
  • Coordinate with Tribal Departments for HED/AVT students 20 hours internship during Summer/Winter breaks.
  • Attend/participate in Public School Site Council Meetings.
  • Host an annual college/vocational fair.
  • Host and attend Chemehuevi Education Board Meetings.
  • Attend Tribal Council Meetings, when necessary.
  • Support Tribal Events and functions such as Nuwuvi Days and CA Indian Days.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in establishing and executing program goals and objectives.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Ability to plan and implement programs.
  • Knowledge of computers, including tutorial programs and web-based learning.

Other Requirements:
  • Comply with Drug-Free and other Workplace Administrative Policies.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License and provide DMV history upon hire.
  • Knowledge of Chemehuevi Culture preferred.
  • Ability to travel
