POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Education and Development, the Education Center Manager will be responsible for planning and implementing activities which promote education of youth in alignment with the expected outcomes of established goals of the Tribe and various funding sources. The Education Center Manager will be responsible for providing a variety of family focused community programs which may include, but are not limited to, activities which promote education, culture, traditions, recreation, sports, and health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Communicate with all the youth in the Tribal Membership to determine their needs and interests.
- Conduct at least one (1) youth interest survey yearly which shall be made available to all Tribal youth.
- Speak with local and reach out to non-local youth on an ongoing basis.
- Provide a variety of educational, recreational and cultural activities.
- Educate the community about the Tribe's history, language and culture.
- Schedule activities, facilities, staff and volunteers as required.
- Plan, supervise and facilitate activities for youth.
- Participate in planning for the Annual Big Time, holidays, gatherings, meetings and other youth and cultural events.
- Work well with and communicate effectively with youth, parents, coworkers and the community.
- Prepare information about youth programs and distribute to the entire Tribal Membership.
- Create a monthly calendar for youth activities and distribute to the entire Tribal Membership by utilizing the Tribal newsletter and website.
- Post information regularly in Tribal building lobbies in the form of flyers and on information screens.
- Possess good communication skills, particularly good listening skills and patience.
- Exhibit negotiation, mediation, team building, and decision-making skills.
- Provide Special project management, assistance and coordination to the organization.
- Collaborate with other departments scheduling activities and events to increase the amount of activities available to youth and the community.
- Responsible for preparation, submission, payment and reconciliation of all funds for the After School Program.
- Provide all necessary receipts and documentation to Finance Department for reconciliation.
- Maintain a duplicate set of records for all transactions.
- Review, approve and submit requests for purchase orders, checks, etc.
- Develop and maintain project budgets with income and expenditures.
- Ensure payments are accurately charged to projects.
- Authorize expenditure of funds for the After School Program.
- Coordinate services with vendors or contractors as needed.
- Perform essential functions of the job including, but not limited to:
- Operating office equipment such as a computer, phone, copier, and fax.
- Using Microsoft Office.
- Bending at the waist, sitting for extended periods of time and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Create and maintain accurate, organized, and complete files.
- Maintain all files with sensitive information in a secure location.
- Maintain attendance and/or sign in sheets for all programs and activities.
- Gather data for accountability and to measure performance of programs.
- Maintain all documents required to sustain internal, local, state, and federal regulatory compliance.
- Prepare materials necessary for internal and external audits.
- Ensure grant compliance
- Collaborate with the Tutoring program to help students.
- Assist with tutoring when necessary.
- Set up activities in which the Tutoring program and the After School Program coordinate.
- Supervise Staff
- Process Time Cards and approve all absences.
- Ensure that all duties of staff are completed.
- Process a performance evaluation for each member of staff each January.
- Create a report on the After School Program and Tutoring program for the Annual Membership Meeting.
- Attend weekly Manager's/Directors meetings.
- Manage the Education Center Building.
- Work extended or odd hours such as evenings and weekends.
- Chaperone and frequently travel.
- Drive self and others.
- Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development, Education or the equivalent of education and/or experience in a related field.
Minimum five (5) years' experience working in a pre-school, school age, tutoring or after school program setting.
Must possess a fist aid and CPR certification; or obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Mandated reporter training must be completed within 60 days of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid CA driver's license.
NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
