Special Education One-on-OneInstructional Assistant and Bus Driver
Primary Purpose: Help special education teachers provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education settings. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs including self-help behavior management and instruction programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher.
Qualifications: Education Certification High school diploma or GED Teacher assistants must hold one of the following qualifications: A 2-year associate degree A minimum of 48 semester hours of college coursework
As a condition of employment with MCS applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route when needed. This is in addition to the 37.5 hours for EC Instructional Assistant duties and would be paid at overtime rate for 40 hours or more per week.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Support Help teachers prepare instructional materials and classroom displays. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory care and maintenance of equipment. Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs including transferring to and from wheelchairs lifting or positioning. Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding bathroom and personal hygiene. Help manage the behavior of students. This includes intervening in crises and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each students special medical physical communicative and emotional needs. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher. Supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom bus and playground duty. Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students.
Other Maintain confidentiality. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

Working Conditions: Mental Demands Physical Demands Environmental Factors Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling regular heavy lifting of students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: May be required to attend CPI Crisis Prevention Institute training obtain CPI certificate and all renewals. Must possess an empathetic attitude toward disabled students. Work cooperatively with others in a positive manner. Willing to learn specialized instructional management techniques. Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff while maintaining confidentiality. Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions. Drive a school bus route when needed. May be required to be a substitute bus monitor.
JOB QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have an Associates Degree or 48 approved semester hours from a regionally accredited institution. As a condition of employment with MCS applicant would be required to obtain bus certification and license to drive a morning or evening bus route when needed.
