Position Details

General Statement The Assistant Director of the Early Learning Center supports the Director in the daily administration and operation of the center. This position assists with staff supervision, scheduling, reporting, classroom support, and compliance with licensing and program standards. The Assistant Director plays a key role in maintaining program quality, supporting staff, and ensuring a safe and positive environment for children and families.

This position typically demands flexibility within center operating hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, occasional evening or weekend hours for meetings, training, or facility planning may be required. Additionally, this role requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and to move throughout the facility as needed to support daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist the director with daily center operations and management.
  2. Assist in center reporting, including Best Beginnings documentation, CACFP reporting, and other center administration.
  3. Assist in classrooms as needed.
  4. Support staff in developing & implementing professional development plans, encouraging ongoing professional learning, and compliance with required trainings.
  5. Support program compliance with Montana child care licensing regulations, STARS to Quality standards, Early Head Start standards, and Child and Adult Care Food Programs, as well as others as applicable.
  6. Ensure learning environments are safe, welcoming, developmentally appropriate, and well-maintained.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Associates degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, or a related field.
  2. Qualification and annual registration as Level 4 or higher on the Practitioner Registry.
  3. At least 2 years of leadership experience in a licensed early childhood setting.
  4. Proof of required immunizations (e.g., Tdap, MMR).
  5. Current Adult/Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Experience with CACFP, STARS to Quality, and EHS collaboration.
  2. Knowledge of SmartCare, QuickBooks, Practitioner Registry, ECP, and CACFP systems.
