POSITION: Early Head Start Teacher REPORTS TO: Center Supervisor SUMMARY: The Infant-Toddler Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality care and education for children aged 0-3 years in a classroom of 6-8 children. The Teacher works collaboratively with a partner teacher, families, and colleagues to support the developmental progress of each child along their unique path and toward the program's School Readiness Goals. This is a grant-funded position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Classroom Time / School Readiness Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization and choice-making; ask open-ended questions and follow-up questions to promote further learning and thinking. Promote English language acquisition of children who are English- and Dual-Language learners. Establish a positive classroom climate. Guide the behavior of children in positive, effective ways. Follow a consistent schedule which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities. Supervise and monitor children at all times and respond appropriately to crisis or emergencies that may occur. Release children only to individuals with appropriate signed consent. Active Supervision Understands and implements all required policies and procedures related to the active supervision of children at all times, including: Observation of the environment to evaluate that children have a place to play, and they can be observed and listened to at all times. Continuously scan & count for children under care and report the accurate number when asked. Develops knowledge of the children under care to anticipate their behavior, performing wellness checks, and being proactive and avoiding putting children in danger. Ensuring that indoor and outdoor equipment and facilities are clean and do not present any hazards. Ensure that classrooms and centers are equipped with safety supplies that are readily accessible to staff. Individualization, Curriculum, and Assessment Follow agency-adopted curricula, using effective strategies to guide learning. Prepare the classroom environment and materials to support developmentally appropriate curriculum plans and learning experiences. Assess individual and group needs, attending to specific interests, strengths, and concerns. Work with appropriate agencies to develop specialized planning for children and families as needed. Coordinate with support staff when indicated, developing a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the classroom. Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for children as identified in their individualized family service plans (IFSP). Develop and utilize integrated curriculum plans which reflect mandated elements and components, familial and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Head Start children. Establish weekly goals that promote individual and group educational plans and include other Head Start components. Participate in integrated service meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components. Complete required screenings within 45 days of when the child first enters the program. Family Engagement and Community Partnerships Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces family and volunteer engagement. Support the role of families as the first and primary teachers of their children. Conduct required 90-minute home visits with individual families. Help plan and participate in family activity events. Expected to be knowledgeable of the regulations associated with the prevention of occupational disease and injury, including the exercise of universal precautions and the prevention of contamination. Positively promotes Head Start in the community. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families, and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. July 2025 Be able to meet state licensing requirements and have one of the following minimum educational requirements: Current Infant/Toddler CDA credential -or- Other comparable credentials as listed below (any one of the following): State Infant Toddler Credential Preschool CDA; plus: 2nd setting for Infant/Toddler component of CDA; OR Infant/Toddler or Early Childhood Education (ECE) coursework Any bachelors or associates degree in any field, plus 15 credit hours of Infant/Toddler or ECE coursework or related coursework Bachelors or associates in ECE Bachelors or associates in Child Development Complete and maintain annual training hour requirements. Pediatric CPR & First Aid certified Must demonstrate experience and interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers. Must demonstrate a strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development, including working with parents. Must demonstrate success in working as a member of a team. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with young children. Must have a valid Indiana Driver's License. Preferred: Bilingual preferred.
