Position: Early Childhood Teacher / Child Care Teacher

About the Role

We are seeking passionate, nurturing, and creative Child Care Teachers to join our early childhood team in Richmond, VA. Using the Reggio Emilia philosophy, you will help children (ages 6 weeks to 6 years) learn, explore, and reach their full potential within an engaging, supportive classroom environment.

As a key member of our teaching team, you will design play-based lesson plans, support developmental milestones, communicate with families, and ensure a safe, clean, and inspiring learning space.

What You'll Do

Plan and deliver creative, age-appropriate lesson plans Support cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development Build children's confidence through positive interactions Document milestones and share progress with parents/families Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment Coordinate with staff, teacher aides, and volunteers Support compliance with all licensing, regulatory, and health standards Participate in team meetings, CE sessions, and collaborative planning Promote smooth transitions for children entering and leaving the program Uphold Reggio Emilia practices in both indoor and outdoor learning environments

Health, Safety & Classroom Environment

Demonstrate strong infection control and environmental safety awareness

Maintain clean furniture, toys, and materials to reduce exposure risks

Identify and report hazards (broken toys, surfaces, spills, etc.)

Ensure proper supervision ratios at all times, including playground coverage

Manage cleaning supplies safely in accordance with state guidelines

Education & Credentials

Required (any of the following):

Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, or similar

High School Diploma/GED plus 40+ hours of ECE coursework

Or equivalent education + experience combination

Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's in Early Childhood or Elementary Education Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential

Experience Needed

Required:

Experience working with children ages 6 weeks–6 years (paid or unpaid)

Minimum 2 years of formal childcare experience

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, noisy, high-interaction environment

Strong communication, reasoning, and problem-solving skills

Comfort with multi-tasking, frequent transitions, and changing priorities

Preferred:

Experience with infants/toddlers (6 weeks–2 years)

Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach
