DescriptionPerform duties to assist in the planning, implementation and care of children in the Child Development Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives direction from an assigned supervisor.
- Assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for children;
- Assist with supervision of children in the classroom and playground;
- Assist in the management and shaping of student behavior through the use of positive reinforcement strategies;
- Assist in the development of a variety of instructional materials for use with individual and small groups of students;
- Perform a variety of regular clerical duties, such as filing, data entry, and maintaining student records;
- Assist to maintain a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment by performing such tasks as cleaning, arranging displays, or preparing bulletin boards;
- Assist children to develop positive relationships with peers and adults;
- Assist to observe and record children's development and progress;
- Introduce new foods to children and reinforce proper eating habits;
- Maintain an awareness of and care for daily health needs; respond as needed performing such duties as changing diapers and assisting with self-help skills and health checks;
- Serve as an appropriate positive role model.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training, as required;
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge of:
- General concepts of child growth and development principles and characteristics of child behavior.
- Simple record keeping and record management.
- Basic computer use and data entry.
Ability to:
- Work effectively with children and parents.
- Maintain confidentiality of center-related information.
- Monitor and oversee the activities of children ensuring a cheerful and safe environment.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Handle stress from daily interaction and care of young children.
- Physical conditioning to ensure a safe environment for children; occasional moderate lifting and carrying requirements; frequent standing and walking.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
Completion of the twelfth grade or the equivalent and have completed at least six units of ECE/Child Development coursework.
Experience:
No experience required; six (6) months experience preferred.
Licenses and Permits
Assistant Child Development permit issued by the California Commission of Teaching Credentials, preferred.
Pre-Employment Special Requirements:
Successfully complete a physician's report, TB test, and criminal records clearance including the Child Abuse Index.
