Primary Purpose:

Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that nurtures the social-emotional, academic, and developmental needs of young learners in early childhood settings. The counselor will support students, families, and staff through direct services, prevention activities, and collaboration to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• Master's degree in School Counseling, Early Childhood Counseling, or related field
• Valid School Counselor Certification as required by the state

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of child development in ages 37
• Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and early intervention strategies
• Ability to design and deliver developmentally appropriate guidance lessons
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

Experience:

• Counseling experience in an early childhood or elementary setting preferred
• Early childhood teaching experience beneficial

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Guidance and Counseling:

• Implement a developmentally appropriate guidance program that fosters self-regulation, social skills, and readiness for school success.
• Provide short-term individual and small group counseling to address issues such as separation anxiety, social interactions, emotional regulation, and family transitions.
• Conduct classroom lessons on topics including feelings identification, friendship skills, safety, and conflict resolution.

Crisis Intervention and Support:

• Respond to immediate student and family crises using trauma-sensitive approaches.
• Collaborate with staff to develop and implement behavior support plans for students with challenging behaviors.

Collaboration and Consultation:

• Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding early childhood development, behavior supports, and positive classroom climate.
• Support families through consultation, referrals to community agencies, and assistance accessing early intervention services when appropriate.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review student needs and plans.

Program Management:

• Maintain accurate records of services provided in compliance with confidentiality and professional standards.
• Support campus-wide initiatives that promote a positive, safe, and inclusive culture.
• Use data to assess program effectiveness and identify emerging student needs.

Professional Responsibilities:

• Adhere to ethical and legal standards in counseling practices.
• Engage in ongoing professional development in early childhood mental health and counseling.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Working Conditions:

• Mental demands: Ability to remain patient, compassionate, and composed in emotionally charged situations.
• Physical demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and engaging with young children at their developmental level.
• Environment: Work inside; occasional districtwide travel.
• Minimum Salary $67,200
• $3,000 stipend
• Salary is commensurate with experience
• Works 195 Day Calendar
• Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
