Primary Purpose:
Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program that nurtures the social-emotional, academic, and developmental needs of young learners in early childhood settings. The counselor will support students, families, and staff through direct services, prevention activities, and collaboration to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Early Childhood Counseling, or related field
- Valid School Counselor Certification as required by the state
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of child development in ages 37
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and early intervention strategies
- Ability to design and deliver developmentally appropriate guidance lessons
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Experience:
- Counseling experience in an early childhood or elementary setting preferred
- Early childhood teaching experience beneficial
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Guidance and Counseling:
- Implement a developmentally appropriate guidance program that fosters self-regulation, social skills, and readiness for school success.
- Provide short-term individual and small group counseling to address issues such as separation anxiety, social interactions, emotional regulation, and family transitions.
- Conduct classroom lessons on topics including feelings identification, friendship skills, safety, and conflict resolution.
Crisis Intervention and Support:
- Respond to immediate student and family crises using trauma-sensitive approaches.
- Collaborate with staff to develop and implement behavior support plans for students with challenging behaviors.
Collaboration and Consultation:
- Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding early childhood development, behavior supports, and positive classroom climate.
- Support families through consultation, referrals to community agencies, and assistance accessing early intervention services when appropriate.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review student needs and plans.
Program Management:
- Maintain accurate records of services provided in compliance with confidentiality and professional standards.
- Support campus-wide initiatives that promote a positive, safe, and inclusive culture.
- Use data to assess program effectiveness and identify emerging student needs.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards in counseling practices.
- Engage in ongoing professional development in early childhood mental health and counseling.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Working Conditions:
- Mental demands: Ability to remain patient, compassionate, and composed in emotionally charged situations.
- Physical demands: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and engaging with young children at their developmental level.
- Environment: Work inside; occasional districtwide travel.
- Minimum Salary $67,200
- $3,000 stipend
- Salary is commensurate with experience
- Works 195 Day Calendar
- Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
