Land Surveyor I: Leads multiple Department survey parties or oversees contracted survey parties for the purpose of determining boundaries and topography of real property or oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps; provides analysis and technical assistance, support, coordination and advice for the development, implementation and maintenance of land surveying-related information technology/systems (ITS/IS) and applications to include global positioning and geographic information systems (GPS/GIS). Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Land Surveyor II: Leads multiple Department survey parties or oversees contracted survey parties in a district for the purpose of determining boundaries and topography of real property and/or oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps; providesanalysis and technical assistance, support, coordination and advice for the development, implementation and maintenance of land surveying-related information technology/systems (IT/IS) and applications to include global positioning and geographic information systems (GPS/GIS). Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct responsibility for the work product.Land Surveyor III: Leads multiple Department survey parties and oversees contracted survey parties in a district for the purpose of determining boundaries and topography of real property. Oversees the compilation, update and maintenance of real property maps; provides analysis and technical assistance, support, coordination and advice for the development, implementation and maintenance of land surveying-related information technology/systems (IT/IS) and applications to include global positioning and geographic information systems (GPS/GIS). Serves as project lead. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct responsibility for the work product.Essential Duties:Land Surveyor I Identifies and defines parcels for use in transportation projects by using relevant elements of surveying, property description writing, mapping, law, research, measurement, analysis and computation.Originates, signs and seals property descriptions and oversees setting of monument property corners.Performs construction surveying.Trains and instructs other survey personnel.Traverses horizontal and vertical control points between GPS control points.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Land Surveyor IIIncludes all duties listed above in addition to the following:Coordinates, prioritizes and directs the work of the district survey staff (state and contracted forces).Provides guidance for staff pursuing SIT and RPLS registration.Provides technical guidance to district personnel for surveying related inquiries.Reviews completed surveys to ensure accuracy and adherence to required specifications.May serve as a lead worker by serving as a resource for complex questions; presenting workflow and operational updates to the supervisor/manager; providing input on team membersandrsquo; career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensureoperations coverage.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Land Surveyor IIIIncludes all duties listed above in addition to the following:Develops guidelines, procedures and policies for district surveying activities.Reviews district and consultant survey procedures for compliance with department, state and federal standards.Serves as liaison between TxDOT management, design staff and department or consultant survey crews.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
